Docs perform a stapleless technique in knee surgery

Knee replacement usually involves incision, stitches and long-time complete bed rest for the patient. But in a unique case, doctors at a hospital in the city performed knee replacement of a fifty-five-year-old woman without stitches by using stapleless technology and made her able to walk after only three hours of the operation.

Usha Jain is a resident of the Chitrakoot area in Jaipur. Looking at her, while she walks into her house, no one can easily believe that she had gone through knee replacement surgery only four days back and returned home from the hospital only a day before.

“When Usha Devi was brought to the hospital here, she was unable to walk,” Dr. Ranat Ramjas Vishnoi, joint replacement surgeon at Shalby Hospital said. “She was suffering from osteoarthritis, and knee replacement was the only solution to relieve her from acute pain. We talked with her about the stapleless technology of total knee replacement and after her consent did it successfully. She was able to stand and walk after only three hours post-surgery and was discharged from the hospital on the third day,” said Dr. Vishnoi

It is estimated that osteoarthritis, in particular, osteoarthritis of the hand or knee, is about twice as common in women as in men. In women, its incidence increases significantly after menopause(45-55 years). As per the specialists, stapleless technology is beneficial to women, because it involves no incision or scar on the knee. There is no need to stay in the hospital for a long time, due to which hospital expenses are lower and importantly, there is no danger involves in stacking stitches.
